During his visit to campus, Professor Watts will present a series of four lectures from March 9 to 19, 2026, and lead a seminar for Graduate Students. This lecture series is hosted jointly by the University of Michigan and the American Academy in Rome and will be delivered at both institutions.

Professor Watts specializes in the intellectual, political, and religious history of the Roman world. He is the author of seven books and the editor of five more, including his most recent book, The Romans: A 2000 Year History (Basic Books, 2025). His work has also been featured in Time, Vox, Smithsonian, the Economist, the Wall Street Journal, the San Francisco Chronicle, British Museum Magazine, and the New York Times.
