Bruce W. Frier, the John and Teresa D’Arms Distinguished University Professor Emeritus of Classics and Roman Law, received an honorary Doctor of Letters degree from Tulane University during its 2026 Unified Commencement on May 16. Tulane recognized Frier—one of the world’s foremost experts in Roman legal history—for his groundbreaking scholarship examining how ancient legal systems shaped economic, social, and political life, as well as his lasting impact as a teacher and mentor.
