About
Sayak Dutta is a postdoc working with Dr. Sean Johnson to understand how galaxies form and evolve by observing and studying the gas around galaxies and quasars. His research primarily focuses on the circumgalactic medium, combining absorption-line observations from HST/COS with ground-based integral-field spectroscopy from MUSE. Originally from Kolkata, India, Sayak completed his Ph.D. at the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA, India) before joining U-M LSA Astronomy in 2026.
