I'm on a waitlist. How do I get into the course?

Watch the How to Waitlist a Class video from our Wolverine Access Tutorials.

Watch your email. If you are able to get into the class, the department will send you an email with a class permission or "override" letting you know that you can register for the course. These permissions usually have expiration dates, so make sure you register for the class right away.

It's the first day of classes and I'm still on the waiting list!

Go to the first class. Introduce yourself to the instructor. Enrolled students who don't show up might lose their seats, so you could be in luck.

Look at other sections. Your ability to get into a lecture course will typically depend on seats opening in your specific discussion/lab section, so look for open seats in other sections too. Consider attending more than one to increase your odds (but remember, you can only waitlist one section).

Have a backup class just in case. Make sure to go to it so you don't lose your seat or have to play catch-up later.

Whenever you're told you can get in (either via email or directly from an instructor), they will then issue an electronic override. You must then go into Wolverine Access and officially register for the class. These override permissions do expire, so check your email often!

I was able to get an override - now what do I do?

You must go into Wolverine Access to make your placement in the class official. Add the class to your backpack and then register for it. Wolverine Access will recognize that the override was issued in your name and will allow you to add the course even though it may still say that the course is closed.

If the class permission/override expires before you use it, get back on the waitlist and contact the department of the class and ask if they are willing to help you.

Each academic department manages the waitlists for its own classes, so you should contact departments with questions about specific courses.

Remember: If you are trying to get into a closed class. you must also attend your other classes as most departments have a policy of dropping students if they don't attend either of the first two sessions.

If you are having difficulty with your schedule, connect with a general advisor. We're happy to help!
