Getting Access to the LSA Undergraduate Student Advising File

Step 1: Request Access to the System

Have your department approver* complete the LSA Advising File and Appointment System Access form on your behalf.

*Departmental Approvers List*

Faculty and professional staff advisors can access the system, as well as student services staff, support staff, and graduate student instructors who are department advisors. Undergraduate peer advisors may not have access to the system.

Step 2: Complete Training on Student Records and Sensitive Data

All system users must also complete the online MyLinc FERPA training course to ensure the proper use and protection of student information. You will be required to complete this FERPA training annually to continue using the LSA Advising File.

Step 3: Get System Training

If you are only seeking access to the Advising Appointment system, training is not required. Proceed to step 4

To get access to the LSA Undergraduate Student Advising File, training is mandatory. Training can be done virtually by registering on the Training website. If you cannot attend the live virtual training, you can enroll in the online Departmental Advisor Training course.

Step 4: Access the System

You will be notified via email once your access to the system has been approved. Log in to the LSA Undergraduate Student Advising File using your U-M uniqname and UMICH password.

Undergraduate Advising Appointments - Customized calendar application used by various departments and offices for student appointments. The department approver must specifically request the access type - staff and/or advisor-level access.

  • Appt Staff: access to scheduling tools/export for advisors in calendar group
  • Appt Advisor-Level: calendar group, user has access to own calendar

U-M M-Pathways Student Records Access
(If  you need to generate/view degree audit checklists and imaged documents)

Once your access to the LSA Undergraduate Student Advising File is approved, your department approver will need to submit a request for access to M-Pathways Student Records data via the UM ITS Online Access Request System (OARS) website.

Additional Software Application Access

Have your department approver email the Advising File and Appointment System Support Group (lsa.advapps.access@umich.edu) for access to the following applications:

  • LSA Advisor Handbook - Advising information and best practices created and maintained by the Newnan LSA Academic Advising Center (for LSA advisors only).
