Four-Year Renewable Scholarships

Each year, the LSA Scholarships Office awards Four-Year Renewable Scholarships to approximately 200 incoming LSA students. These awards are made based on a student's scholarship application, their undergraduate admissions application, and their financial need, as demonstrated by their FAFSA and CSS profile. For students interested only in merit scholarships, a FAFSA and CSS is not required.

Whether you wish to pursue merit or need-based scholarships, completing the Four-Year Renewable Scholarship application will ensure you are considered for any and all LSA Scholarships you may qualify for. Read on to learn more about our Four-Year Renewable Scholarships and the application process for incoming students.

For qualified first year incoming LSA students, the Four-Year Renewable Scholarship helps to cover the cost of attendance.

Award amounts vary for each scholarship. For in-state students, award amounts can go up to $15,000 per year. For out-of-state students, awards amounts can go up to $25,000 per year. All Four-Year Renewable Scholarships are renewable for four years of undergraduate study, provided students maintain eligibility by completing their requirements each academic year.

The Four-Year Renewable Scholarship Application for the 2024-25 academic year will open on January 1, 2024. All awarding/reviewing has been completed for the 2023-24 academic year.

Please note: Our office will begin evaluating applications on a "rolling basis" versus waiting to review all applications after the hard deadline. Early determinations will be made and while there are no guarantees to awarding, the odds for applicants to be awarded increases with an early submission. Students who wait until the final deadline to apply may be disappointed to find that all of the scholarships have already been awarded. We encourage you to apply early!

To qualify for a Four-Year Renewable Scholarship, a student:

  • Must be admitted to an undergraduate degree program in the College of LSA. Students will be considered even if they haven't enrolled yet.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (i.e. possess a green card).
  • Must apply for and receive need-based support through the Office of Financial Aid. Exception: students applying only for merit scholarships.
  • Must have a FAFSA and CSS profile on file with the Office of Financial Aid (OFA) and must renew their FAFSA annually for need-based scholarships. Exception: students applying only for merit scholarships.
  • Must be enrolled (or intend to enroll) full-time (12 credit hours or more) each term.

Note: Students applying only for merit scholarships do not need to have a FAFSA and CSS profile on file.

The application process has four steps.

Step one: Verify your Friend Account in Wolverine Access. Instructions to do this are below under the question: How do I verify a Friend Account? If you have forgotten your Friend Account password, you can reset it here. If you do not have a Friend Account, you can create one here.

Step two: Once your Friend Account is verified, click the button below and log in to the LSA Scholarships application portal by using your Friend Account ID and password. If you do not verify your account, you will not be able to log in.

Step three: Complete our general application. When asked which scholarship program you are applying to, click the box for the "Four-Year Renewable Scholarship."

Step four: Once the general application has been submitted, you will then be directed to complete the application for the Four-Year Renewable Scholarship program. Submit this application for full consideration.
