Special Presentation for Physics and Applied Physics | Active Attacker Training
Sargent Gary Hicks (U-M DPSS)
Sargent Gary Hicks is from the University of Michigan Division of Public Safety and Security (DPSS). He will give a presentation on how to address the issues of identifying potentially violent situations and will educate our community on how to respond to an active attacker and active shooter. The presentation aims to educate students, faculty, and staff on how to respond during an active attacker/shooter situation and on identifying the warning signs often displayed by people who are at risk of hurting themselves or others.
Sargent Hicks is an alumnus of University of Michigan where he also achieved the title of World Class Athlete in Track & Field. He earned an Emmy in 2018 for narrating the University of Michigan and DPSS production of an Active attacker video called, “Run, Hide, Fight." Sargent Hicks is an instructor at the Washtenaw Community College Police Academy where he instructs Physical Training, Defensive Tactics, Weapons Retention, Spontaneous Knife Defense, Interpersonal Communications, and Biased Police Practices. He is a certified fitness trainer, practices martial arts and is a Black Belt Karate Instructor. Gary is also an accomplished musician.
Lunch will be served.
