#GivingBlueday Impact
Just a few months have passed since Giving Blueday but the impact has already begun! Here are just a few ways the donations made back in November are already at work.
LSA Earth and Environmental Sciences
Students in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences just returned from a field trip to Texas, supported by gifts received during Giving Blueday 2017. After learning about geological formations in the classroom and laboratory on campus, field trips provide valuable context and a sense of scale that expands their understanding.

optiMize
In March 2018 the LSA student organization optiMize announced their sixth fellowship cohort. Thanks, in part, to donations made on Giving Blueday they were able to award over $200,000 in grants and fellowships and this summer the 27 teams will continue working to turn their ideas into sustainable impact for the future. A generous group of optiMize alumni helped to incentivize donations by matching all gifts on Giving Blueday up to $10,000.
U-M Museum of Natural History
The U-M Museum of Natural History rallied around a crowdfunding campaign to Help Move the Mastodons during Giving Blueday 2017. Gifts from over 30 crowdfunding donors, in addition to more given this year, are being used to help disassemble, clean, and reassemble the iconic mastodon couple from their home in the Ruthven Museums Building to a prominent locaiton at the entrance of the new Biological Sciences Building. The Museum reached its $5,000 goal and all donors will be invited to see the mastodons in their new home before the exhibit opens to the public!
Major Gift to the LSA Opportunity Hub
On Giving Blueday Howard Widra and Beth Redlich made a major gift to establish the Howard Widra and Beth Redlich Student Support Fund. This generous contribution is being used to provide need-based support for undergraduate internships through the LSA Opportunity Hub.
