Dr. Scott Shore received his B.S. in cell biology from the University of Michigan (1976), his Ph.D. in molecular biology from the University of Wisconsin and was a USDA-ARS postdoctoral research plant pathologist at Purdue University. He taught microbiology, molecular genetics, biotechnology, and cell biology at North Carolina State University and continues as Adjunct Associate Professor in the Plant and Microbial Biology Department.
Dr. Shore accumulated over thirty years US and international experience in government and industrial regulatory affairs with emphasis on biotechnology products and policy, starting as the Biotechnologist for the North Carolina Department of Agriculture, being responsible for development and administration of regulations to implement the North Carolina Genetically Engineered Organisms Act. He then worked at Novozymes, Vector, and Syngenta where he designed, developed, administered, and implemented strategies, plans, and procedures for regulatory compliance and approval of genetically modified enzyme products and crop plants. Lastly, he was an independent regulatory consultant for projects developing improved crops in Africa and Asia and building in-country regulatory capacity for the evaluation of new biotechnology techniques, applications, and products.
