The LSA Honors Program's Peer Advising offers the chance for lower-division Honors students to meet with trained upper-division student peer advisors who can provide information and advice on research opportunities, conducting research, seeking out internships, and more!
Peer advising can be drop-in or scheduled. Students have the opportunity to attend appointments both in-person at 1330 Mason Hall or virtually over Zoom.
Meet our Peer Advisors!
Hi! My name is Seoyoon, and I'm a senior from Korea and Japan double majoring in Biopsychology, Cognition, and Neuroscience and Biology, Health, and Society. I'm particularly passionate about interdisciplinary research across neuroscience, psychology, and biology.
I've spent the past summer extensively conducting research in the Michigan Psychoneuroimmunology Lab as a Stamps Scholar and am now continuing my project under an honors thesis. I hope to help students overcome the intimidating feeling of getting started in research and to help them navigate the process effectively. I'm also happy to assist in any search for international and external research positions, graduate school programs, and funding!
Office Hours: Tuesdays from 4pm-5pm, Wednesdays from 3pm-4pm, Fridays from 10:30am-11:30am

Hi! I'm Isabelle, and I'm a sophomore majoring in English and Political Science. My experience includes internships for political campaigns at the county to the state level, as well as work in legal offices. My focus is on searching for government and public policy internships, creating a resume/CV, and cold emailing. In my free time, I love going on walks and watching romance movies. Stop by with questions!
Office Hours: Tuesdays from 1pm-6pm

Hello everyone!! My name is James, and I'm a junior working on my dual degrees in Honors Economics and Mathematical Sciences. I've had a wide variety of research and internship experiences, both here at UMich and outside. Some of my favorite projects have been my REU project modeling tropical diseases using ODEs and cost-optimizing prevention plans, a project with a former UMich Economics PhD student on how individual morality predicts country-level taxation patterns, and my ongoing research at the Institute of Social Research on post-Great Recession government lending. I am also a big basketball fan and really like cooking (I make a mean chili).
As a peer advisor, I'm a really good fit for people looking for both internships and research experiences, particularly in the social sciences. I realize that many undergrads might not have a defined research niche or career trajectory yet, and that's okay! My goal is to guide my mentees through this process over the course of a longer-term advising relationship. I'm excited to meet you all!
Office Hours: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am-11:30am

Hello! My name is Luka, and I am a junior dual-majoring in Mathematics and Statistics, pursuing an Honors Major in both. I plan to pursue a PhD in either Applied Mathematics or Statistics, with a focus on stochastic and time series modeling on the theoretical side, with applications to meteorology, economics, and medicine. My current research focuses on the asymptotic optimization of treatment cutoff thresholds, and I participated in the Honors Summer Fellowship program in 2025 to pursue this research as part of my eventual Honors Thesis. Additionally, I conduct research on the climatic side, working on two projects. One analyzes the projected increase in unprecedented precipitation events and dives into the disproportionate impacts of these events, and the other aims to build a theoretical framework for a Machine Learning Model to enhance the prediction and forecasting of tornado outbreaks.
If you have any questions about getting involved in research, especially in STEM and quantitative/mathematical fields, need CV help, or would like to go over any research posters, conference proceedings, and general research advice, please don't hesitate to schedule an appointment with me or come to my office hours.
Office Hours: Fridays from 1pm-4pm, Saturdays from 2pm-4pm
