Himani Boompally is a first-year PhD student in the joint History and Women’s and Gender Studies program. Their research focuses on the history of mental illness in Hyderabad, India from the mid-1800s to 1948. They are interested in studying the intersections of oppression and power in psychiatry and indigenous forms of medicine as they deal with mental illness. Himani graduated from the University of Southern California in 2023 with a B.A. in History and Psychology.
