About
Shireen Guru is a first year PhD student in the joint program in Women's and Gender Studies and History. She is interested in Black and brown women's history in the United States from the 1950s to the 1970s. In particular, she hopes to look at the homespace, and the kitchen table, as a site of resistance. In 2021, Shireen received a B.A. with Honors from Johns Hopkins University in History. From 2021-2023, she was a research fellow in the Food Systems Planning and Healthy Communities Lab at the University at Buffalo where she researched the impact of the kitchen table on Black women activists in the East Buffalo community.
