About
Dr. Carol Boyd is the Founding Director of the Center for the Study of Drugs, Alcohol, Smoking and Health (DASH Center). She is also the Deborah J Oakley Collegiate Professor Emerita in the School of Nursing; Professor Emerita, Women's and Gender Studies, LSA; Research Professor Emerita, Addiction Center, Department of Psychiatry; and Research Professor Emerita, Institute for Research on Women & Gender.
She is a nationally recognized scholar in the study of women and substance abuse. Her research focuses on the relationship of gender to drug seeking and drug abuse prevention, including both prescription and illicit drugs. She is studying gender differences in prescription drug use and abuse among secondary and college students using web-based research protocols. Dr. Boyd was the first researcher (as a Principal Investigator) to develop two web-based surveys, Student Life Survey and Secondary Student Life Survey, to examine substance use and related behaviors among adolescents and emerging adults.
