About
Professor Berman is engaged in theoretical research related to the interaction of radiation with matter. He works on fundamental problems in non-relativistic quantum mechanics. Among topics of current interest are (1) collective radiation modes of atomic ensembles, (2) entanglement of atoms using optical fields, (3) light scattering by two or more atoms, (4) modified atom-field interactions in dielectrics, and (5) pedagogical problems related to the interaction of radiation and matter.
Professor Berman is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and the Optical Society of America. He is the coauthor of Principles of Laser Spectroscopy and Quantum Optics, published by Princeton University Press.
