The Philosophy department Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Prize is awarded to graduate students in recognition of outstanding work to advance our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion mission: to enhance diversity, increase the inclusiveness of our academic community, and promote greater equity throughout our campus and broader communities to which our Department belongs. DEI Prize awardees receive a cash prize of $1,000.
The DEI Prize is intended for advanced graduate students (students in their fifth year and above), as it will recognize students for extended efforts in supporting our DEI mission over the course of their graduate career, whether through scholarship, teaching, or professional service. In order to be eligible for the prize, students must submit a diversity statement. After receiving diversity statements from students, the Graduate Studies Committee will solicit comments in support of these students from tenure-stream faculty who serve on the Department’s Executive Committee. The Graduate Studies Committee will then reach a collective decision about the recipient(s) of the prize.
