Ragan Glover, Ph.D. is the Director of the Michigan Research and Discovery Scholars (MRADS). Dr. Glover holds nine years of experience in student-centered teaching and a distinguished record of research and scholarship. She earned her Ph.D. in Communication, Rhetoric, and Digital Media from North Carolina State University.
Dr. Glover’s research focuses on users’ experiences with mobile and immersive technologies. She co-edited the book, Hybrid Play, and has published in esteemed peer-reviewed journals within her field. She regularly presents her research at conferences such as the International Communication Association (ICA) and the Association of Internet Researchers (AoIR).
Before joining the University of Michigan, Dr. Glover served as an Assistant Professor of Communication and Faculty Affiliate to the School of Data Science at the University of Texas at San Antonio. She also served as the Associate Director of the Networked Mobilities Lab—an interinstitutional research lab that studies the intersection of networked technologies and human mobilities. In these positions, she developed strong leadership and mentorship competencies through such capacities as student advising, curriculum development, and faculty mentorship.
In addition, Dr. Glover has led and participated in several public-facing projects. These include co-leading the development of a Women’s Safety & Digital Technologies storytelling repository and the Retro Mobile Gaming Database. She also contributed to the well-recognized Virtual Martin Luther King, Jr. Project at NC State. Throughout her academic career, she has been actively involved in public scholarship through podcasts and other media, with the aim of highlighting the critical role of communication technologies in contemporary society.
