How to Get Involved

The success of MRADS and UROP depends on the willingness of researchers to support and mentor the next generation. For over 20 years, University of Michigan faculty, research scientists, fellows, and administrators have volunteered their time to sponsor first-year undergraduates and incorporate those students into their research efforts. As members the residential affiliate of UROP, MRADS students participate in UROP research projects throughout their first year. Read below to learn about the various ways you can get involved with the Michigan Research Community!

Be a Research Mentor

  • As an affiliate of UROP, MRADS works with researchers who have formally registered with UROP. Please see their research mentor process. Once you have decided to be a Research Mentor, you can list your project with UROP.

Share your research with MRADS students

Speak at a Research Seminar during the Winter semester

  • Peer Advisors host research seminars for their first-year advisees on Wednesday evenings during the Winter semester. By speaking at a seminar, you have the opportunity to present your research, as well as your career path, to a handful of first-year students who are eager to interact with you in a small setting!

Speak at a Dinner Discussion

  • MRADS sophomore leaders have an opportunity to hear from researchers about their education, career path, and current work in an informal setting - dinner in the Hill Dining Center! Five Dinner Discussions are held in the Fall semester on Wednesday evenings from 6-7pm.
  • Discussions allow sophomores to further engage with researchers in an intimate setting, as well as gain a professional development experience.

We are always looking for researchers at the University of Michigan and in the surrounding community to share their experiences with our students. If you are interested in participating in any of these opportunities, please contact DiscoverMRADS@umich.edu.
