When you choose to join MRADS, you will automatically be placed in Mosher Jordan Hall, affectionately nicknamed MoJo.We are a residence hall up on the Hill, seated between Alice Lloyd and Stockwell. Although MoJo is a little smaller than the other dorms, it has much to offer!
Lounges and Living Rooms and Morgues Oh My!
MoJo has many lounges where you can study and relax. We have two areas called living rooms, lounges on each floor, and four larger lounges on the second floor. The living rooms are great for social gatherings and movie nights, however, they also have whiteboards ready for studying needs. The lounges tend to be quieter, and more adapted for study sessions, but I have seen people hang out in all these locations. One of my favorite study spots is the Morgue, one of the lounges on the second floor. We call this room the Morgue because it is the only fully silent study room in the building, giving students a great space to focus on their work. One of our lounges has a piano that is completely free for students to use. I can often hear Derek from MRADS practicing his piano while people study to the background music.
The Dining Hall
Most residents on the Hill use the Mosher Jordan dining hall since our neighbors do not have their own dining halls. The dining hall offers a wide range of food, including vegan, gluten-free, and halal options. They also have a sandwich bar for picky eaters like myself. The food options change every day, and they have special food on holidays, so you’ll never get bored with the same food over and over.
The History
The building was built in the nineteen twenties, and it was originally named after two women, Eliza M. Mosher and Myra B. Jordan. MoJo was the first large women’s dormitory, and it caused some controversy with people who said the dorm was too large and too far from campus. Now, MoJo is an all-gender dorm, very close to campus, and a fairly average dorm size.
Other Amenities
Mosher Jordan has plenty of other amenities as well. We have a community center where students can have their mail delivered, and there is a full-time staff who alerts students when their packages arrive. MoJo also has a community learning center with computers and printers. Some of the computers are called CAEN computers and come equipped with multiple softwares which are used for class projects like CAD, SolidWroks, Altium, etc. We also have washers and dryers on each side of the dorm, as well as full kitchens with cooking supplies on each side of the dormitory. There are gendered and gender-neutral bathrooms available on each floor, and the bathrooms in residence areas have showers that are cleaned twice daily. There is no way for non-residents to get into the dorms without having an Mcard because all entrances to the dorm portion of the building are locked. We are also incredibly close to the new state-of-the-art gym.
MoJo provides the perfect place for MRADS students to thrive, whether you’re looking for a quiet place to study or academic resources, Mojo has it all. With its rich history, welcoming community, and impressive amenities, it’s clear why MoJo is the way to GoJo.
