Hey everyone :)
I know that the idea of going from home cooked meals to dining hall food can be daunting, and while the menu is definitely diverse, sometimes, you need a little imagination to make the rotations feel new again. So, if you think that even for a second, you’ll find yourself halfway through your freshman year desperately craving something new, bookmark this blog post.
Here are a few of the ways I revamped MoJo’s dining hall food:
- Iced Coffee: It’s a little strange that a college dining hall doesn’t offer iced coffee, but it doesn’t. But instead of going to Blue Cafe and spending your hard earned money, just grab a cup, fill it with ice, and add hot coffee to it! (Pro tip: for a caramel coffee, add caramel from the ice cream bar).
- Affogato: For a more fancy option, add vanilla ice cream to your hot coffee to make an affogato (it’s also good with hot chocolate instead of coffee!)
- Chicken Caesar Wrap: I’m vegetarian, so I can’t really speak to how good the chicken caesar wraps are, but some of my friends have made chicken caesar wraps from the chicken tenders at Wildfire with a wrap from the deli and caesar dressing from the salad bar!)
- Cookies ‘n’ Cream Yogurt: Everyone wants to be healthier (ah the dreaded freshman 15), so if you’re ever in need of more protein, I suggest a bowl of Greek Yogurt with oreos from the ice cream bar (I’m a yogurt hater and this one’s actually amazing).
- Ice Cream Sandwich: The dining hall cookies are amazing but they’re even better when there’s two with ice cream in the middle :)
All this to say, everything’s not as cut and dry as it seems. You can always make something that seems too hard and too stressful into something new and exciting! I know that for a lot of you college may seem like a daunting new change. The pressure to make friends and do well in your new, college-level classes can be intense. But just like these silly little changes to your dining hall food makes it more fun and delicious, so does trying new things in college!
Going to Festifall, UHost events at the Union, and trying new clubs; all of these can be ways to make your college experience more fun! MRADS also has hosted some of the most fun events I’ve been to: Painting with Bob Ross, Decorating Cookies for the Holidays, and more!
College truly is what you make of it, and at MRADS, you have the opportunity to make amazing friends and go to fun events. I know the idea of starting a new chapter in your life can be scary, but remember to try new things and get out there!
