Graduate students Lauren Beck and Özlem Karuç participated in the German and Dutch Graduate Student Association's 20th Annual Conference, "Andersrum: Welcome to the Otherhood 2.0" November 9-10, 2018, in Madison, Wisconsin.

Beck was a part of the "An Othered Point of View-Other and the Self" panel and presented her paper "Outside of Modernity: Spatial and Temporal Otherhood in Vicky Baum's Menschen im Hotel."

Karuç was a part of the "Expressions of the Other in Literature and Film" panel and presented her paper "Representations of the Current 'Refugee Crisis' in Literature and Film."
