The 20th Annual DeVries-Vanderkooy Memorial lecture will be given by University of Michigan Professor Emerita Dr. Irene Butter.
Dr. Butter will discuss cultural identity, immigration, citizenship, and tolerance, and tie them to her experiences as a Holocaust survivor. Dr. Butter was instrumental in founding the university's Raoul Wallenberg medal and lecture, and started the local Jewish-Palestinian dialogue group Zeitouna. The two films Refusing To Be Enemies and Never A Bystander feature Dr. Butter's work and life.
