Professor Josef Vogl holds the Chair for Contemporary German Literature: Literature and Cultural and Media Studies at the Humboldt University, Berlin, and is Permanent Visiting Professor at Princeton University. He studied German, Philosophy, and History at universities in Munich and Paris, and has translated key theoretical works from French into German as well as writing highly influential books on literary, social, and economic theory.
His 2010 work “The Specter of Capital”, tracks the creation, development, and persistence of faith in a self-regulating market from the Enlightenment to the present. Another focus of his research relates to the history and theory of knowledge, which informs a number of published and further projects.
