The Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures at the University of Michigan sponsors an annual “German Day” for secondary school students of German in southeastern Michigan. This event plays a major role in promoting the study of German in Michigan and attracts over 1,000 students, parents and teachers to take part in German language competitions. These include contests in speaking, acting, musical performances, poetry recitation, video production and website creation. Thanks to the generous donation of small prizes from local German companies and the work of over 150 faculty and student volunteers, we are able to pull off this massive and exciting community outreach event each year.
