The Museum of Zoology (UMMZ) named Ben Nicholas as the next Fish Division Collection Manager. He will assume his new role June 1.
Previously, Ben worked as a Curatorial Assistant at the Oregon State University Fish Collection and also here at the UMMZ Fish Division. Ben participated in two extended specimen collecting expeditions to the Dominican Republic and one to Perú, and has extensive experience doing fieldwork in the U.S.
Ben is knowledgeable in fish anatomy and phylogenetics, taxonomic identification, microCT scanning and derived analyses, collections cataloguing and maintenance. He also has taught Fish Biology and Field Fish Biology as a GSI in EEB and the UMBS, mentoring undergraduate students in the UMMZ, and most recently the public through the UMMNH Science Communication Fellows program.
