Lieberthal-Rogel Center for Chinese Studies Research Grants are awarded on a competitive basis to LRCCS faculty associates pursuing research on any aspect of China. Learn more.

LRCCS Instructional/Course Development Seed Grants are awarded on a competitive basis to support the development of courses that have significant China-related content OR are designed to integrate China-related material as an analytical focus, in a comparative framework or as a case study. LRCCS Faculty are invited to submit funding proposals for outreach projects that bring an important event, issue, performance, etc., to the University of Michigan and the larger community around us. Learn more.

This fund is designed to support faculty-led group travel for undergraduate, graduate or professional school students wishing to incorporate an education abroad experiential component into an ongoing China-related course during either winter break or spring-summer terms. Although grants are primarily for student costs and it is expected that most faculty costs will be covered by their home department, LRCCS will consider requests for no more than half of the cost of (non-student) expenses. The Fund provides up to $10,000 to help support the organization of conferences, seminars, workshops, and lecture series by LRCCS Faculty Associates, Center Associates, and Doctoral Associates. Teams of two or more, including a LRCCS faculty associate as the principle investigator (PI), are eligible to apply (see the Eligibility section below for more details) with preference given to proposals that seek to foster interdisciplinary scholarship and the crossing of regional boundaries. The PI will serve as the primary contact person. Funds will be disbursed by LRCCS to the PI’s home unit, which will have primary responsibility for hosting the event. All proposals require the signature of the key administrator of the PI’s home unit, acknowledging the unit’s involvement in hosting the proposed event. Learn more.
