The Deep Dive into Digital and Data Methods for Chinese Studies series is designed to provide opportunities for the Chinese Studies community at U-M and beyond to interact with scholars at the forefront of digital and data research and to foster a deeper understanding of the digital environment that can be leveraged in support of Chinese studies. It is co-sponsored by the Lieberthal-Rogel Center for Chinese Studies (LRCCS) and the Asia Library, and is co-directed by Mary Gallagher (Professor of Political Science and Director of LRCCS) and Liangyu Fu (Chinese Studies Librarian, Asia Library).
The Deep Dive series will host two to three events every year. Each event consists of an academic lecture where speakers demonstrate how digital scholarship methods inform their research project, and a hands-on workshop of the digital tools they use.
The purpose of the Digital Scholarship Workshop Travel Grants is to help defray the cost of travel, lodging, and meals for scholars in Chinese Studies at other institutions who wish to attend the Deep Dive into Digital Data Methods lecture and workshop series at the University of Michigan.
Please note that we have a limited number of travel grants, and they are dependent upon the scholar registering for and attending the workshop.
The grants will be paid as reimbursements of expenses in compliance with the University of Michigan's travel guidelines. Candidates must secure approval prior to travel.
