LSA has ~600 emeritus faculty who are granted computing support per SPG 201.80: Emeritus/Emeriti Titles and UHR Procedures 201.80 Emeritus Titles.
Information & Technology Services provides a variety of U-M campus IT services to emeritus faculty & retirees leaving their active teaching career which are detailed on the ITS Leaving the U-M website.
LSA emeritus faculty are generally permitted to retain their current faculty upgrade computer (and additional devices if research requires) to pursue their academic scholarship in retirement. Per U-M Information Security SPG and LSA Security Policies, devices must be returned at end of life when they are no longer able to receive Operating System (security) upgrades. Departmental and/or Research funding may be available for device upgrades, depending on fund balances and departmental practices. Emeritus faculty using LSA or Research funded devices receive desktop support consistent with the services listed in our Faculty model.
At the time current devices are end of life and there is no longer departmental or research funding for LSA funded upgrades, emeritus faculty must transition to personally owned devices for their computing needs, and desktop support becomes consistent with the Personal Devices model. To aid in the transition from a LSA Managed to a Personally Owned device, Technology Services has set up an agreement with the ITS Tech Shop to build an emeritus experience support program. The process includes:
Note: ITS Tech Shop, ITS Tech Consulting, and ITS Tech Repair services are available to the larger U-M community for personally owned devices, including students, faculty, staff, emeritus, and retirees.
Visit the LSA Technology Services Support page to submit to chat, email, call, or request deskside support from our team.
