About
Jonah Stuart Brundage is a political and historical sociologist with interests in state formation, empire and geopolitics, the origins of capitalism, social elites, and comparative and historical research methods. Jonah received his PhD in Sociology from the University of California-Berkeley in 2019. Before coming to Michigan, he was a postdoctoral fellow with the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. He is currently working on a book tentatively titled “Performing World Order: British Diplomats and the Politics of Recognition among Empires, 1688–1815,” which studies how social practices of diplomacy and treaty-making shaped the rise of the British Empire. His work has been published in the American Sociological Review and Comparative Studies in Society and History, among other places.
