About
Valerie Taing studies how policymakers, bureaucrats, and advocates define the needs of poor families and purposes of childcare, and how these evolving ideas inadvertently create new inequalities. Drawing on multiple types of qualitative data, she shows how culture shapes the relationship between poor families and the state. Her work has been published in The Sociological Quarterly, Journal of Poverty, and Routledge Companion to Intersectionalities.
