Tess Hamilton is a PhD student in Sociology and Rackham Merit Fellow specializing in the sociology of law, with a focus on mental health law and policy. Her primary research interest is outpatient civil commitment (often known as "assisted outpatient treatment") and related coercive mental health interventions.
Tess brings over a decade of experience as a practicing intellectual property attorney and pro bono advocate to her graduate research. Tess received her law degree from Yale Law School, where she participated in the Supreme Court Advocacy and Immigration Legal Services Clinics. Prior to law school, she studied economics and sociology at Harvard University.
