About
Marnay is a proud first-generation-to-college student, St. Louis native, and fourth-year sociology doctoral student. She is broadly interested in the sociology of housing and social inequalities. She's developing a qualitative study on the political empowerment of Black women in the Housing Choice Voucher program -- with hopes of broadening housing policy debates to consider more than just affordability. She's also currently bridging her scholarly interests with housing advocacy work at a nonprofit organization dedicated to investigating complaints of discrimination in housing and public accommodations across 10 counties in Michigan. Both her scholarly and advocacy work ground her commitment to fighting for housing justice for all.
Prior to joining the department, Marnay worked as an elementary school teacher in Kansas City, Missouri. She holds a M.Ed. in Elementary Education from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and a B. A. in Sociology and African American Studies from Colby College. She is also an alumna of the Leadership Alliance (Harvard '16-'17), Teach for America (TFA '18), and the Institute for the Recruitment of Teachers (IRT '19).
