I-Lun Shih is a graduate student instructor and PhD candidate in sociology at the University of Michigan, specializing in comparative-historical sociology. His research interests include politics, environment, and energy technologies.
In his previous work, I-Lun conducted extensive research to analyze the evolution of political movements and social protests in various contexts, including authoritarian, democratic, colonial and post-colonial settings.
In the current dissertation project, he is interested in the contested relationship between popular and elite politics, broadly construed. His dissertation is a comparative study of the development of green tech and energy markets in democracies and dictatorships from the latter half of the twentieth century to the present day, focusing on Taiwan, China, U.S., and social democratic Europe.
