About
Clary is a joint doctoral student in the Sociology department and the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy. Her research examines socio-legal approaches to gender and human rights, including historical-comparative approaches to the integration of gender in international human rights and international refugee law. She draws from the intersection of international sociology, sociology of law, political sociology, and intersectional feminist methodologies, with a particular focus on gender, migration, refugee rights, and socio-legal approaches to law, policy, and social change.
Her master's research focused on the contested recognition of gender-based violence in U.S. asylum, drawing from political sociology and socio-legal approaches to gendered asylum rights, state responsibility, and categorizations of persecution. She also holds an interest in comparative perspectives on gender and the law, social change, and feminist social movements.
She completed a research-focused social sciences BA in sociology and gender studies at the Université de Lausanne in Switzerland (2018) and a Master in Public Policy from U-M's Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy (2022). She also completed a Graduate Certificate in Women's and Gender Studies (2022) and the U-M Graduate Teacher Certificate (2022). Committed to public scholarship and teaching, she earned the CRLT U-M Graduate Teacher Certificate and has taught 8+ semesters as a GSI, including in the Global Scholars Program, one of Michigan's living-learning communities focused on global social justice education.
