About
Why did you choose your majors?
I chose to double major in psychology and communications because I find people and their behaviors fascinating. I also love being creative and designing. Psychology and communications were the perfect blend of majors for me to learn and grow my knowledge of people and the media. Both majors were also extremely easy to apply to many fields, which gave me a broad range of opportunities for work after graduation.
At Michigan, I spent most of my time outside the classroom…
involved in many student organizations, such as, MACS, Wolverine, Cuizine, Student United Way, etc. I also played IM basketball and participated in a couple runways shows for SHEI Magazine. I loved spending time soaking up all Ann Arbor had to offer!
What story stands out to you in your first year on the job?
I am still in my first year on the job, but so far what has stood out the most is the overall company I work for. I didn't know companies like this existed! I have the flexibility to create my own schedule, work from home, learn about cutting edge research, help others love where they work, and utilize some of the most advanced office technology out there. It's an amazing experience to work for a company that truly cares about employee well-being and personal growth.
What’s next in your story?
I hope to one day work with the internal research and workspace futures team at Steelcase. They conduct behavioral research with some top knowledge workers in the country and hope to find out and design for what the office of the future is and needs. I hope to grow in my current position and find a department that fits my interests and needs.
What is one thing every student should have on their “career to-do” list?
Internships and experiences abroad! My internships gave me valuable experience for my current position and helped me to feel prepared to enter the workforce. They also provided me with connections and experience to make my resume stand out. Traveling abroad with GIEU through U of M was also a great resume booster and gave me a great experience to draw from during interviews to showcase my interests in different cultures, while also showing I had many attributes that employers are looking for, such as being a team player, curious, and connected to the world.
