- If a course transfers as a specific/equivalent course (ex. Psych 280), no approval is needed.
- If a course transfers as Departmental Credit (Psych “dept”), you will need approval from the department to use the course to meet a specific major requirement. First, check the Psychology Department's Transfer Course/Study Abroad Database. If the courses is listed, proceed to Step 3 below.
If the course is not listed, complete the Course Petition Request Form for EACH course you would like evaluated. A detailed syllabus must be included in the petition. A detailed syllabus includes:
(1) Instructor’s name
(2) Term class was offered
(3) Prerequisites (if any)
(4) Brief description of course
(5) Textbook and/or list of assigned readings
(6) Assessment/description of each assignment
(7) Daily/weekly schedule of topics covered
Note: If any of these are pieces are missing, evaluation may be delayed.
For a Statistics course that transfers as Stats, Math, or Psych "Dept" credit
1) If the course is equivalent to Stats 250, no further evaluation is necessary.
2) If the course is not equivalent, it must be evaluated by the Psychology Department through the procedures noted above. Courses that are not equivalent to Stats 250, but are very similar, may be accepted as meeting the Stats pre-requisite for the Psychology or BCN major. Students with approved non-equivalent Stats credit will also need to complete a brief, ungraded Statistics Tutorial (in addition to the transfer course) before they will be eligible to declare a Psychology or BCN major. Students should verify their course is approved before completing the tutorial. Once the Psychology or BCN major is declared, an advisor will need to enter an exception to apply the transfer credit to the Stats 250 requirement on the student’s audit.
