About
Advising Philosophy:
I have a holistic advising philosophy; I see students as more than just their major: their identity, background, and interests all influence who they are and how I can best support them. I am proactive and look ahead to potential opportunities and obstacles that I can advise students on and support them through. I see myself as a student advocate and strive to build meaningful connections with them. My goal is to support the whole student in working on their degree in the timeline and way that best fits them.
Career Path:
I’ve had a nonlinear career path working in several sectors: nonprofit, private consulting, K-12 education, federal government, restaurant, and retail. After working and networking in Washington D.C., I realized that although I cared about the environment and enjoyed learning about it, a job in that field was not the best fit for my skills or personality. As my younger brother’s unpaid and unofficial academic advisor for four years (Eastern Michigan graduate), I knew I wanted to pursue a career in academic advising. I earned my Master’s degree while advising and coordinating programming for undergraduate students studying business. My research was in academic advisors’ perceptions when advising students of different majors and their ethical obligations in providing information about career prospects. I am so fortunate to be back at my alma mater advising undergraduate students majoring in Psychology and BCN and coordinating our STAR Scholars and Accelerated Master’s Degree Programs!
Favorite Part of Working at UM:
My favorite part of working at Michigan is the school pride that permeates all aspects of the university, from the faculty and students, to the staff and wider community. The Michigan difference is apparent to me every day!
