Marisa Meyer (Psychology major, class of 2020) was awarded the Academic Pediatric Association (APA) Research Award for Best Abstract by a Student for her abstract entitled “How 'educational' are children’s apps? A content analysis using a novel coding scheme.” She was selected to give a platform presentation of her research at the 2019 Pediatric Academic Societies (PAS) Meeting. Based on concerns expressed by experts about the largely unregulated and untested range of apps marketed to children, the study aimed to evaluate the content and design of children’s apps marketed as “educational,” and to examine differences in educational quality between free and paid apps.
