Why Gratitude Isn't Just For Thanksgiving

Abstract: Why did we evolve to experience gratitude? And, more importantly, why don't we always feel grateful and what can we do about it? Humans are an ultrasocial species who create and maintain long-term bonds, a task that is not always easy. In this talk, we'll discuss the origins of gratitude—how it may have helped us become the ultrasocial species we are—as well as the role that gratitude plays in modern life, especially in romantic relationships. We'll also consider why we do not always feel nor express gratitude to those in our lives, and what research suggests we can do about it.
