The Psychology Diversity Committee is pleased to announce the awardees of the 2020 Psychology Faculty and Student Diversity Research Awards, and the 2020 Psychology Student Diversity Service Awards. These awards are supported by a Faculty Allies for Diversity grant awarded to our department from the Rackham Graduate School.

Each year, one or more graduate students and a faculty member are recognized for their outstanding research that addresses important issues related to diversity, including questions pertaining to ethnicity, race, gender, sexual orientation, and/or socioeconomic status, and basic research on topics relevant to understanding human diversity.  In addition, one or more graduate students are recognized for their engagement in outstanding service activities that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.

 

Faculty Diversity Research Award

This year, the Faculty Diversity Research Award was awarded to two faculty members whose papers were rated as a tie:

  • Myles Durkee for his paper “Cultural invalidations: Deconstructing the ‘Acting White’ phenomenon among Black and Latinx college students”
  • Isis Settles for her paper “Epistemic exclusion: Scholar(ly) devaluation that marginalizes faculty of color"

  • Sara McClelland for her research on "In the Fabric of Research: Racial and Gender Stereotypes in Survey Items Assessing Attitudes about Abortion"
