The following units are dedicated to supporting U-M's diverse communities by hosting events, creating initiatives, and providing resources.
Dean of Students Office (DOS): Promotes student development and enhances the Michigan experience of undergraduate and graduate students through programs, services, partnerships/connections, and policy development that promotes an inclusive campus climate and facilitates the successful navigation of campus life.
Detroit Initiatives: Dedicated to serving the city of Detroit and its residents through education, research, and service.
Expect Respect: Encourages all to create and maintain a respectful and inclusive environment that provides the support and opportunity necessary for each member of our community to prosper and achieve.
First Generation Students: Seeks to provide first-generation students at U-M with resources, insight, and inspiration that can help students thrive and succeed on campus.
International Center: Provides a variety of services to assist international students, scholars, faculty, and staff at U-M, as well as U-M American students seeking opportunities to study, work, or travel abroad.
Multi-Ethnic Student Affairs (MESA): Strives to promote student development and empower the campus community around issues of diversity and social justice through the lens of race and ethnicity.
National Center for Institutional Diversity (NCID): Aims to create a more equitable and inclusive society. Produces, catalyzes, and elevates diversity research and scholarship. In this pursuit, also builds intergenerational communities of scholars and leaders to integrate these evidence-based approaches in addressing contemporary issues in a diverse society.
Office for Institutional Equity (OIE): Oversees, facilitates and supports U-M's efforts to ensure equal opportunity for all persons regardless of race, color, national origin, age, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, disability, religion, height, weight, or veteran status in employment, educational programs and activities, and admissions.
Office of Academic Multicultural Initiatives (OAMI): Works collaboratively and cooperatively with the campus and external constituencies to develop initiatives that enrich the academic, social, cultural, and personal development of students.
Office of the Ombuds: Confidential, informal, and safe environment where students can discuss current or anticipated disputes and conflicts with the University. Also promotes positive organizational change by facilitating improvements in University policies, procedures, services and systems to better serve students.
Program on Intergroup Relations (IGR): Committed to helping students, and those who work with them, pursue social justice through educational engagement, practice, and pedagogy.
Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD): Recognizes disability as an integral part of diversity and is committed to creating an inclusive and equitable educational environment for disabled students. SSD is a partner to students, faculty, and staff in the pursuit to develop leaders and citizens who will challenge the present and enrich the future.
Spectrum Center: Works toward enhancing the campus climate and support services for LGBTQ+ students, staff, and faculty at the university through education, advocacy, and community building.
Student Caregivers: Resources dedicated to the needs of student caregivers at U-M who juggle parenting, other family care, work, and study.
Undergraduate Admissions: Information about applying to U-M with specific resources for first-year, transfer, international, undocumented, and veteran and military-connected applicants.
