Comprehensive Studies Program (CSP)

Students in CSP's Summer Bridge Program have an excellent opportunity to strengthen their academic skills, build a professional support network, and familiarize themselves with the campus and its resources. 

Internships

Curious about a career path? Internships are a great way to get to know a particular organization and occupation. The LSA Opportunity Hub helps students explore their interests outside the classroom.

Social Impact

optiMize supports student innovators building projects they are passionate about, whether that means design solutions for people with disabilities, a community farm growing 50,000 lbs of fresh produce in Detroit, or the first-ever “open world” virtual reality game for mobile.

Global Studies

LSA students push boundaries—and cross them. LSA offers over 125 global study programs covering six continents. Looking for an international internship experience? CGIS offers for-credit summer internships for U-M undergraduates. 

Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP)

More than 1,300 first- and second-year students and 800 faculty engage in dynamic research partnerships to foster inquisitive and independent real-world learning. 

Michigan Learning Communities (MLCs)

Michigan Learning Communities offer inclusive environments where students with common interests such as research, writing, the arts, health, the sciences, service, and civic engagement can learn and hang out together. The Honors Program and Residential College are options exclusively for LSA students.

Small Classes, Special Themes

First-Year Seminars are limited to 18-24 students, allowing you to engage with faculty on a more personal basis while fulfilling at least one of your LSA requirements. Theme Semesters combine coursework with lectures, museum exhibits, live performances, film series, and more as you immerse in a particular topic.

Service Learning

Help strengthen communities, enrich your academic experience, and create the foundation for a lifetime of service to others. Service learning opportunities include the Ginsberg Center, Project Community, and Project Outreach.

Michigan in Washington

Each year, 45–50 University of Michigan undergraduates from all majors spend a semester in Washington, D.C., combining coursework with an internship to earn a full semester of credits. 

Semester in Detroit (SiD)

Combining a semester-long residence in the city with rigorous academic study and a comprehensive community-based internship, Semester in Detroit students become deeply involved in—and committed to—the life, challenges, and promise of this important American city. 

Explore Outdoors

Think outside the textbook with learning opportunities such as the New England Literature Program, Great Lakes Arts, Cultures, and Environments, Great Lakes Writers Corps, the U-M Biological Station, and Camp Davis (Wyoming).
