Qualified students are able to combine their MIRS degree with any other graduate or professional degree at the University of Michigan for a self-initiated dual degree program.
To qualify for a dual degree, students must apply to and be accepted into both degree programs independently. Interested students may apply to both programs simultaneously, or apply for the second program during their first term as a graduate student. Our team of advisors will work closely with dual degree students throughout this process to ensure the requirements for both degrees are met in a timely manner.

- University of Michigan Law School
- School of Public Health
- School of Information
- Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy
- Ross School of Business
- School of Social Work
Please note that many master's degree programs at the University of Michigan are designed to be completed in four academic terms. Because students must complete all graduate requirements for both programs, a dual degree may extend the time to graduation beyond the standard two years. Additional tuition and costs should also be anticipated.
Certificate Programs
MIRS students are welcome to enroll in graduate certificate programs while they complete their regular coursework. Certificates are non-degree credentials for study that typically include 12-19 credits of additional coursework. Students interested in pursuing a graduate certificate must apply for admission to their desired program.
