- You will be required to submit an application for each of the Global & Internship Opportunities and any of the Regional applications you are eligible for. The applications are similar, and the same content can be used for each application.

Global Research & Internship Opportunities (GRIO) Common Application
Through the Global Research & Internship Opportunities application, U-M students can apply for funding to support internships and research anywhere in the world.
The application includes the following funding opportunities:
Eligibility Criteria
Review the specific eligibility requirements for each award carefully.
This application is open to:
- Academic Levels:
- Undergraduate and master’s students in all schools/colleges
- Professional school doctoral students
- Rackham PhD and DMA students who have achieved candidacy or will achieve candidacy by Fall 2026.
- Applicants must be enrolled U-M Ann Arbor students.
- International students are eligible to apply.
- Projects must take place outside of the U.S. and U.S. territories.
- Awardees must return to campus for at least one term before graduation.
- All travel must follow current guidelines, outlined in the International Institute Travel policy.
William A. and Shirley P. Yolles Graduate Fund for Research on Humanitarianism.
The Yolles Graduate Fund for Research on Humanitarianism is designed to support a Rackham graduate student whose research focuses on broadly-defined humanitarian research anywhere in the world. Read more here.
Award amount is up to $6,500.
Eligibility Criteria

Applicant must be enrolled in a Rackham Graduate program (masters or doctoral), regardless of citizenship - international students are eligible to apply.
Upon completing the project, student must return to campus for at least one term prior to graduation.
Projects must take place outside of the U.S. and U.S. territories.
All travel must follow current guidelines, which are detailed in the International Institute Travel Policy.
