Dr. Cookie Wolner received her Ph.D. in Women's and Gender Studies and History at the University of Michigan in 2014. She recently published her first book, titled The Famous Lady Lovers: Black Women and Queer Desire Before Stonewall. The book was a finalist for the Judy Grahn Award.
In this book, Dr. Wolner investigates the impact of Black queer women on American culture through cultural artifacts such as 19020 and 1930s blues songs, Black newspapers, vice reports, sexology case studies, and memoirs of Black queer women performers, writers, and educators.
