We’re excited to announce that, as of September 1, we have officially become the Department of Women's and Gender Studies.
Our new name more fully reflects the range of interdisciplinary research and teaching that occurs in our department today, while honoring our history as a leader in feminist studies since our founding in 1973.
This change is the product of more than two years of discussion and deliberation, and many months of careful planning. In November 2018, a plurality of faculty voted in favor of the change, which was approved by LSA and the Regents in 2019.
There will be no change to the mission or focus of our degrees. Our world-class faculty, course offerings, and engagement opportunities remain the same – now, under a name that better captures what we already do.
Welcome to a new academic year in Women’s and Gender Studies!
