Professor Petra Kuppers, Professor of English Language and Literature, Women's and Gender Studies, Theater and Dance, and Art and Design, has received several awards for her career work in theatre and dance.
Professor Kuppers has been awarded the Environmental Arts Grant from Anonymous Was A Woman and NYFA for her Crip Drift performance stage four. The grant supports "environmental art projects led by women-identifying artists in the U.S." A total of $308,000 was awarded across 19 projects, selected from 907 applications.
Now a Visionary Trailblazer, Professor Kuppers was also the recipient of the 2024 Leadership in Community-based Theatre and Civic Engagement award from the Association for Theatre in Higher Education in the Visionary Trailblazer category. This award recognizes "a leader who, through their artistry and extraordinary sense of mission, catalyzes progressive, new thinking in the field and facilitates the artistic growth of others."
One of Professor Kupper's professional organizations, Performance Studies international, also awarded her the 2024 Calgary Artistic Research Award for her Crip/Mad Archive Dances Performance Lecture at the summer's conference. The award goes to a program contribution that "exemplifies the huge potential for artistic research to not only create new knowledge but also to expand epistemological horizons."
Major congratulations to Professor Kuppers!
