Anna Kirkland, Kim Lane Scheppele Collegiate Professor of Women's and Gender Studies and Arthur F. Thurnau Professor, along with University of Michigan Invesitgators Jim Dupree, Michigan Medicine, Helen Levy, Institute for Social Research and the School of Public Health, Edward Norton, School of Public Health, and S. Sriram from the Ross Business School, have been awarded federal funds for their project, How Health Insurance Benefit Design Affects Infertility Treatment and Birth Outcomes.
The project will take place over a five-year period and be funded by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. It will study how insurance benefit designs for in vitro fertilization (IVF) influence the decisions patients make during IVF treatment and the outcomes of their IVF attempts. By the end of the project, researchers will develop, for the first time, best practice evidence that will guide policymakers to design IVF benefits to optimize access to, costs of, and quality of IVF.
This project is also supported by Marie Eddy at the Dow HSR Division, IHPI's grant development team, and the Center for Health Outcomes and Policy.
