Abigail Stewart, Professor of Psychology and Women’s and Gender Studies, has been awarded the Kurt Lewin Award by the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues. The Kurt Lewin Award recognizes individuals who have made “outstanding contributions to the development and integration of psychological research and social action” in their careers.

The committee charged with awarding this honor remarked that they were, “impressed by the breadth of her work in the areas of institutional transformation, the trajectories of women’s lives, and the advancement of understandings of feminism and activism in a global context, among others.”

Over five decades of dedicated work in her fields, Professor Stewart has indeed made outstanding contributions to her fields. She was the founding director of the Institute for Research on Women and Gender, and past director of the Women’s and Gender Studies Program. She currently researches race, gender, and education.

Professor Stewart continues to make remarkable contributions to the development and integration of psychological research and social action.
