What is "enough of a chance of dying that that person would qualify under Michigan's ban?" This is the question posed by OBGYN, medical professor, and WGS affiliated faculty member Lisa Harris in a recent interview with NPR. "Would [a pregnant person's] risk of dying need to be 50% or 100%? Or what if a pregnant woman has cancer and she needs to end the pregnancy to start chemo?" She poses.
Harris has an MD and PhD from Harvard University. Dr. Harris’ research examines issues at the intersection of clinical obstetrical and gynecological care and law, policy, politics, ethics, history, and sociology. She conducts interdisciplinary, mixed methods research on many issues along the reproductive justice continuum, including abortion, miscarriage, contraception, in vitro fertilization (IVF), infertility and birth, and racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic disparities in access to reproductive health resources.
