Life Sciences Peer Facilitator
About
Varisha is a junior majoring in Biopsychology, Cognition, and Neuroscience with a minor in Gender and Health. She plans to graduate in 2021 and pursue a career in medicine. She is really interested in the intersectionality of health and women’s rights and education, and hopes to make an impact on the way healthcare is structured for women in the future. Varisha is involved in the Muslim Student Association as well as the Pre-Med Club and Psi Chi. She will also be a SLC facilitator for Bio 225 this school year.
Varisha was born in Pakistan, but has lived in Farmington Hills, Michigan for the majority of her life. She enjoys making trips back to Pakistan to visit extended family and for the culture and food! She loves reading, with realistic fiction and nonfiction being her two favorite genres. In her free time she also like exploring new cities and trying out new coffee shops and places to eat around campus! Her favorite way to relax is movie nights at the end of the week with friends or Netflix binges.
Varisha started as a student in UROP as a freshman, and still works with the same lab today! She is a part of an Emergency Medicine lab, where she works on a project involving Resonance Raman Spectroscopy as a noninvasive monitoring method for critical care patients. "I love UROP because it made everything from applying to labs and working on interview skills, to communicating with your mentor and constructing a poster seem like a breeze."
